Hello, good evening and welcome.
This is a bonus edition of The Stickler that covers the NFL. If that’s not your thing then feel free to delete. If it is then welcome aboard. I’m going to try and make this a weekly thing every Tuesday. Scarily this is my 39th season of watching the NFL. In that time I’ve seen my team, the Chicago Bears reach the Super Bowl once in 2007. And they lost. Love the game. Love my Bears.
This is going to be a random selection of things that caught my attention from the weekend games and whatever is in the news. There’s seven cartoons today and my intention is to sit in that 5-10 range during the season. Let’s go. And hit that subscribe button for all The Stickler content to your inbox, internet place, Substack app.
First up - I hate the Green Bay Packers but even I have to admit their “Winter Warning” alternative uniforms on Sunday were a thing of beauty. Would love my Bears to have gone that way instead of the vomit inducing all orange.
After a fortnight in London, Trevor Lawrence and the Jags got an essential victory over the Soft Pats. I like drawing Trevor - he has features.
Game of the week was Detroit’s nail biting win over previous unbeaten Minnesota. The game was played at a very high level. Jared Goff is playing out of his mind right now.
Performance of the week came from Saquon Barkley. Booed throughout his return to New Jersey he stomped all over the Giants for 176 yards at 10 per clip as the Eagles were comfortable winners.
There was drama in Cleveland as unpopular quarterback and all around shit human being Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles. You could hear it pop audibly from the stands and on the TV.
Sunday Night Football was in Pittsburgh. Old Man Aaron Rodgers and the Jets faced off against Old Man Russell Wilson who was given the start over Justin Fields. After a very slow start Old Man Wilson was able to pop some rainbows to George Pickens and friends in a crushing victory.
For Old Man Rodgers it was more of the same. You can keep feeding him old Green Bay wide receivers but the fact is he just looks old out there now. Of course, nothing is ever his fault and the usual tut tut head shaking was going on every time he threw an interception. And it’s all the media’s fault anyway.
That’s it for the first NFL Stickler. Please leave comments on what you thought and share if you liked it. See you next Tuesday.

Superb as always, a very welcome addition to The Stickler
As a longtime vikings fan I can't get behind anyone liking the Bears. On the other hand, I can get behind anyone hating the Packers.
Loving the NFL stickler though, excellent work!
